migrate!LINC     by

migrate!LINC is a tool set that migrates complete applications from the Unisys LINC 4GL to Open technology and languages running on any Unix, Linux or Windows platform.  migrate!LINCenables companies with significant investments in LINC Applications to take advantage of new Open Systems technology and improved productivity.

migrate!LINC migration customers save up to 70% of their costs! Once migrated it is no longer necessary to use LINC at all!

Cost-effective, tried and tested, the migrate!LINC conversion methodology offers you the opportunity to upgrade to new technology while preserving your investment in application development.  migrate!LINC's automated process offers highly reliable conversion at greatly reduced timescales.

The business case for migration:  the following combination of factors make a convincing case for moving from proprietary LINC applications:

  1. Increasing software maintenance costs
  2. Limited and costly hardware upgrades
  3. Diminishing pool of skilled staff
  4. Capacity constraints
  5. Vendor lock-in

If your organization needs to move from proprietary LINC 4GL applications to an Open System 4GL, then migrate!LINC offers the best, most cost-effective route for your migration.  By using migrate!LINC to modernize with leading edge technology, you will be able to upgrade and enhance your systems to meet your expanding needs more easily, taking advantage of Open Systems and modern technology.

Choice of target:  migrate!LINC is a modular tool that can be configured to provide different presentation layers, different online business logic processing and different batch suite languages.

The presentation layer can be:

  1. Oracle Forms
  2. JSP with Cascading Style Sheets
  3. Extended JSP with CSS and XSLT processing

Business logic is generated as:

  1. Oracle PL/SQL
  2. Java EJBs

Batch programs are generated as:

  1. C or C++ with frame-support enhancements
  2. PL/SQL
  3. Java

To a large extent these technologies can be mixed, e.g. if the highest performance levels are required for a set of batch programs they can be generated in C; if the emphasis is on ease of maintenance all programs can be in the same language -PL/SQL or Java.

Because migrate!LINC applications are completely standard no proprietary run-time environment or continuing support from MSS is required.  migrate!LINC applications are compatible with all major application servers (Oracle App Server required for Oracle Forms).  When the jLINC java migration path is chosen the resulting application will be compatible the original Sun J2EE reference architecture and thus with any mainstream middleware.

Smooth transition:

Automation of the code migration means that no code freeze is required during the migration project.  Significant cost savings in verification and testing phases using migrate!LINC automated database and file comparison tools.  Automatic generation of data migration software gives a fast and secure approach to moving data to the new database.  Built-in extra integrity checks are designed to satisfy the most stringent audit requirements.

migrate!LINC Summary:

  1. Conversion path from Proprietary Linc to Open Systems technology with a wide choice of target environments.
  2. Preserves your application investment, reducing your costs and maximizing productivity.
  3. Largely automated process offers highly reliable conversion at greatly reduced time scales.
